My little brother throwing our basketball in the air and him letting it hit the floor is a work of gravity. My little brother is the force that makes the ball go into the air. Gravity is the force that brings the ball back down. By my brother throwing the ball vertically in the air, makes the ball lands the same place where the ball was thrown. Gravity only works vertically and not horizontally so gravity is the force that brings the ball down.
